It’s been nuts and that is probably an understatement. Fourteen days to go to the SMID launch. There is not enough time in the day! There is so much happening, I can’t think straight. I am dying to catch you up on everything and will work on that over the next few days – promise!

The SMID launch party invitations finally arrived! I am so excited about them. They are exactly what I envisioned, what I wanted AND they capture the spirit of the party’s intentions. This weekend and so far this week, there was a huge push to get all the invites out. We have been stuffing envelopes, adding business cards, addressing them and adding a little “somethin’ special.”

Although the invites and my business cards are great on their own, I felt like they needed to be paired with something. It’s so much fun to get real mail or what I call “old-school mail,” mail that is not a bill or another bloody coupon booklet. So when my invitees open their envelope, I wanted it store something special inside.

I thought about black sequins. Then I thought about the invites being opened on the other end and the sequins falling out everywhere because they wouldn’t expect them. I quickly changed my mind. I am obsessed with metallic gold ANYTHING and black has always been a favorite. Feathers are always a must somewhere in your home or in your wardrobe. So I gold-dipped black feathers. I hope that everyone will either put their feather sticking out of a small jar on their desk, pin it to a board, lay it across a jewelry tray or attach it to a pencil… a black pencil. Sorry! I got carried away. Can you tell I’m excited? It’s very “Great Gatsby” of me and it totally frames my invite.

Check it out!

in studio, in progress

I’m traveling today for work. I really don’t want to be out of town this close to the launch party. I would rather focus on SMID. Duty calls!

Just before I left the house, my much awaited purchase and much anticipated SMEG fridge arrived. If you haven’t seen this fridge yet, you will freak or melt. Love at first site. It’s so good in person! It’s hot. It’s cute. It’s edgy. It’s warm…all at the same time. It’s perfection with a punch.

I thought about choosing a stainless steel skinny fridge with a glass door. That would have been a good choice but it wouldn’t have brought the same feel to this space. I saw the red SMEG at West Elm…super cute! The color would have been fun but it wasn’t the perfect color for the color palette in this room or the adjacent room, which you can see when the barn doors are open. I wanted a punch but I wanted it to be subtle.

The black (not in the store but in my gut) was the right choice for the downstairs’ kitchen. In many cases black appliances are not warm and can seem too hard or heavy. Not this black! This is the kind of detail that will make a room. It needs something placed above it. I think I have the perfect piece and will play with that when I get back home. At least I left town with a big smile.

Ok, this might sound weird but I can see amber colored cocktails being served in this room in the very near future. The color combo will be insane!

Just before the photo shoot, I managed to get moved back into my office. You may remember this post where I was going a little nuts.

My kids were sleeping in my office while the downstairs renos (renovations) were underway. I moved my office into our bedroom. I lost all of my storage space for my office files, magazine clippings, fabric samples, etc. Everything was crammed into my closet or on my desk as well as whatever could fit into my chair…inSANity! Let’s Just say, moving back into my office brought this entire household a bit more peace.

I love my office. I didn’t hold back at all when I designed this room. Well… when do I ever hold back? What I mean is, this is the place where I love to work and the place that should inspire me. So, it’s ok to go a little crazier or heavier in those places. My work space has all the “me” things in there, the things that inspire me and make me smile.

I recently added these yellow vintage swivel chairs from Harlow Lifestyle one of my favorite spots to shop. I wanted a splash of color and a bright one at that. One is for me and one… is for my client. I just smiled. I’m really excited.

I have my closet area organized so that I can see my accessories, fabric swatches, paint chips, vintage frames, vintage trays, story boarding materials, my favorite mags (Elle Decor, Dwell, Vogue Living, etc.), magazine clippings waiting to be rummaged through… You get the picture. It’s all the good stuff. I painted my closet doors to match the room. Some might say, it’s a bit much. I say, it’s just right.

Love these doors. They will be installed today!

So, I have everything the way I want it to look in my office. Now, I need to focus on the “not so fun” stuff; filing receipts, budgeting for projects, etc. It’s important though. In fact, I am updating my budget sheet for the remaining items for Project SMID. Gotta make sure we make it to the launch but, not go over budget. I have gotten distracted a few times but with some really good additions to my collection. Worth it! But, stay on track Smid!
